The city of Lisbon recorded this Tuesday, October 28th, between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm, a total of 66 incidents associated with adverse weather conditions, mainly flooding due to precipitation, which forced traffic to be cut in the Campo Pequeno tunnel.

According to the municipal director of Civil Protection of Lisbon, Margarida Castro Martins, the Campo Pequeno tunnel was closed to traffic at 3:30 pm heading from Entrecampos to Saldanha, a situation that continued at 5:25 pm, with “unclogging work” taking place.

Speaking to Lusa, Margarida Castro Martins said at the time that “soon” the Campo Pequeno tunnel would be reopened to road traffic.

As for the 66 incidents registered in the capital as a result of bad weather, the same source from Lisbon Civil Protection indicated at 4:45 pm that 16 were still active and 50 had already been resolved.

By typology, the majority of occurrences are related to flooding, with a total of 52 situations, of which 20 in private spaces, according to data from Civil Protection.

There are also six incidents of falling trees, three falling structures and two falling cladding, as well as three road accidents.

The Lisbon Civil Protection data also indicates the location of occurrences in the city’s 24 parishes, with emphasis on Lumiar (11), Avenidas Novas (10), Belém (6), Arroios (5), Penha de França (5), Santa Clara (5) and São Domingos de Benfica (5).

Like the entire territory of mainland Portugal, the district of Lisbon was this Tuesday under a yellow warning (the least serious on a scale of three) due to the forecast of “rainfall, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms”, issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

However, the IPMA declared an orange warning for the capital between 3:41 pm and 9:00 pm, when it will return to yellow warning.

The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) warned today of the possibility of flooding in urban areas and floods in the coming days due to forecasts of rain and strong wind, asking the population to adopt preventive measures.
