Prosecutor Hugo Neto will join the team of prosecutors (MP) who is in the judgment of the Marquis Operation. The announcement was made this Tuesday, October 7, by Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
Hugo Neto thus joins Rómulo Mateus, Rui Leal and Nadine Xarope, who were already in the judgment of the megaoprocess whose main defendant is the former prime minister, José Sócrates.
The decision to reinforce the team of magistrates was determined by the Attorney General himself, Amadeu Guerra.
Beyond Marquis Operation, Hugo Neto is also a prosecutor in the process Influencer, that led to the fall of the government of António Costaand in the case EDP, where former banker Ricardo Salgado (also he defeated in the process Marquis) was convicted, as well as former Economy Minister Manuel Pinho.
In the note published by PGR, it refers that, “Whenever necessary, they may intervene public prosecution magistrates” who have participated in the inquiry and instruction phases.
The judgment of Marquis Operation It tore off on July 3. In addition to José Sócrates, there are 20 other defendants, accused of 117 crimes. Some have already been heard in court, as well as some witnesses. At issue they are mainly economic and financial illicit. José Sócrates is responsible for crimes of corruption and money laundering.
