Dr. Thomas Patterson, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, is leading a study site in San Antonio for a drug being tested to treat COVID-19 patients.

University Hospital and Brooke Army Medical Center are clinical trial sites for the promising new drug called remdesivir.

Dr. Patterson said researchers are interested in whether early treatment with remdesivir can prevent “really widespread and extensive damage” that could potentially result from this type of viral pneumonia.
