Remdesivir has been found to shorten the time it takes a COVID-19 patient to recover from 15 to 11 days and halt the progression of the disease, keeping more patients out of the intensive care unit and off of ventilators to breathe, said Dr. Tom Patterson, chief of infectious diseases in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio and a leading researcher of clinical trials of the drug.
