Dr. Ruben Mesa, director of the Mays Cancer Center, was interviewed about the new study in The Lancet featuring data from the COVID-19 and Cancer Consortium.

Mesa said the results from the nearly 1,000 patients showed the death rate of cancer patients who contract COVID-19 is about 13%, twice the rate of the general population.
